Refund & Cancellation Policy
Grizzly Driving Academy · DMV License E0816
Last updated: January 1, 2026
All deposits are non-refundable.
Reschedule at least 72 hours before your lesson. No exceptions.
$15 to change a lesson. $50 if it becomes a no-show.
1. Deposits Are Non-Refundable
Every behind-the-wheel enrollment requires a deposit paid online by debit or credit card. All deposits are non-refundable. The deposit reserves a specific date, time and instructor for your student, and that time is removed from the instructor's schedule the moment the reservation is made.
- Individual 2-hour lesson — $250 total: $50 non-refundable deposit, $200 due at pickup.
- 6-hour behind-the-wheel package — $599 total: $99 non-refundable deposit, $500 due at pickup.
2. Remaining Balance
The remaining balance is due when the instructor arrives and must be paid in cash, money order, or cashier's check. The instructor calls the payment in to the school and verifies the student's valid California learner's permit before the lesson begins. A lesson cannot start until both the payment and the permit have been provided. This requirement cannot be waived by the student, the parent/guardian, or the instructor.
3. Rescheduling or Changing a Lesson
Rescheduling a lesson or changing the date or time of a scheduled lesson requires a $15 change fee, paid through the Student Dashboard.
All changes must be made at least 72 hours before the scheduled lesson. Changes made less than 72 hours before the lesson are treated as a no-show, and a $50 rebooking fee applies.
No exceptions apply to the 72-hour requirement, regardless of the reason for the late change or cancellation. The instructor reserved that time specifically for the student and is compensated for the scheduled appointment, even when the customer has a legitimate reason for needing to reschedule. By scheduling a lesson you acknowledge and agree to this policy.
4. No-Shows
A lesson is treated as a no-show, and the deposit is forfeited, in any of the following situations:
- The student is not inside the vehicle within 5 minutes of the instructor's arrival at the designated pickup location.
- The student does not have a valid California learner's permit.
- The required payment is not ready when the instructor arrives.
- The lesson is cancelled or changed less than 72 hours before the scheduled time.
- The student or parent/guardian decides at pickup that the student will not participate.
- The student is not fit to safely participate in the lesson.
A $50 rebooking fee applies before a new lesson can be scheduled. Remember that the scheduled pickup time is a window, not an exact arrival time — the student and parent/guardian must remain ready and available by phone for the entire window.
Definition of a “no-show.” For the purposes of this policy, a “no-show,” a “late cancellation,” and any other customer-caused failure to start a scheduled lesson are treated the same way. This includes, without limitation: a cancellation or change made less than 72 hours before the scheduled lesson; the student not being present, not having their valid permit, or not having the required payment ready within 5 minutes of the instructor’s arrival; concerns about getting into the vehicle; and any other circumstance caused by the customer that prevents the lesson from starting. In every case, the deposit is forfeited and the $50 rebooking fee applies before a new lesson can be scheduled. No exceptions.
5. When Refunds Are Issued
Refunds are only issued when the driving school is unable to provide the scheduled service for reasons outside of the customer's control. Examples include:
- A mechanical problem with the training vehicle
- The assigned instructor is unexpectedly unavailable and no replacement can be provided
- The school is otherwise unable to deliver the scheduled lesson
Where possible, we will first offer to reschedule the lesson at no charge. If the service cannot be provided at all, the amount paid for that service is refunded to the original payment method.
6. When Refunds Are Not Issued
- Any customer-caused cancellation, including no-shows and late cancellations
- Failure to have a valid learner's permit at the time of the lesson
- Failure to be ready when the instructor arrives
- A parent/guardian expressing fear or concerns, or deciding the student will not participate, after the instructor has arrived. The instructor will not attempt to convince or pressure anyone to proceed — the service is simply cancelled and the deposit remains non-refundable.
- The student appearing intoxicated, impaired, or otherwise unfit to safely participate
- Disrespectful or confrontational behavior toward the instructor at pickup
- Dissatisfaction with an instructor's teaching style, personality or approach to instruction
- Not passing the DMV knowledge test or the DMV behind-the-wheel drive test
- Change of mind after a service has been delivered or made available
Any applicable rebooking fees still apply in these situations.
7. Online Courses
The 30-Hour Online Driver's Education Course is $50 and is paid in full online. Access is granted immediately upon purchase. There are absolutely no refunds once the course has been purchased. Free courses — The Process, Test Prep, and Online Drivers Training Prep — carry no charge and therefore no refund.
8. Certificates
Certificates are issued only after the required instruction hours are completed. Students taking individual 2-hour lessons receive a certificate after the third 2-hour lesson (6 hours total). Purchasing one or two individual lessons does not entitle the student to a certificate and is not grounds for a refund.
Lost, misplaced or damaged certificates must be reordered through the Student Dashboard and carry a $50 replacement fee. If you believe the instructor did not provide your certificate, you must report it within 72 hours of your last lesson. After 72 hours the certificate is considered lost or misplaced and the $50 replacement fee applies — no exceptions. Replacement certificates are mailed by standard mail; expedited mailing carries additional fees.
9. Cancellations by Grizzly Driving Academy
We may cancel or reschedule a lesson due to vehicle issues, instructor unavailability, unsafe weather or road conditions, or other circumstances beyond our control. In those situations you will be offered the next available time at no additional charge, or a refund of the amount paid for that lesson if we cannot reschedule it.
10. How to Request a Change, Cancellation or Refund
- Sign in to your Student Dashboard and open the scheduled lesson.
- Select Reschedule or Cancel. The dashboard will show the applicable fee and whether the deposit is forfeited.
- Pay the $15 change fee (or the $50 rebooking fee, if the change is inside 72 hours) to complete the request.
- If you believe a refund is owed, open Chat Support and describe what happened. We will review the enrollment record, lesson record and payment history.
Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method. Card refunds are typically submitted within 5 business days and may take an additional 5–10 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank. Cash, money order and cashier's check payments are refunded by check.
11. Payment Disputes and Chargebacks
If you have a question or concern about a charge, please contact us through Chat Support before initiating a payment dispute. We will make reasonable efforts to review and resolve legitimate billing concerns.
If a chargeback is filed on a transaction that was authorized, properly charged, and for services that were provided or made available as agreed, we may provide the payment processor with enrollment records, receipts, lesson records, attendance records, communications, signed agreements and other relevant documentation. Payments made with fraudulent, stolen, unauthorized or otherwise invalid payment information may result in cancellation of services and may be reported to the appropriate payment processor or authorities.
12. Relationship to the Enrollment Agreement
This policy summarizes and works together with the enrollment Terms & Conditions signed by the student and parent/guardian. The complete signed agreement is available on the Terms & Conditions page. Where a specific package or promotion states different terms, the terms shown at the time of purchase govern that purchase.
